Britannic Assurance v Old Wulfrunians
Scorelines can be cruel sometimes but the second XI did not deserve to get beaten 4 - 1.
Three weeks ago Britannic hammered the seconds at the Grammar School and Wulfs hardly created a chance, but this week Wulfs gave as good as they got and played some excellent football, especially in the second half.
Wulfs were 2 - 0 down before they had left the changing room. Jason Scott called for a long free kick and then missed it leaving the Britannic wing back a free run to the by-line. He picked out an onrushing midfielder to side foot the ball home.
Two minutes later, with Wulfs calling for offside, Britannic got round the back again and Jason Scott freakily deflected the cross into his own net.
A couple more chances were scorned by Britannic but Wulfs gradually gained a foothold in the game and were unfortunate not to pull a goal back when Adam Woodhall missed two half chances and Adam Shermer had a shot cleared off the line.
Against the run of play Britannic made it 3 - 0 just before half time when their forwards linked up well.
With nothing to lose Wulfs started to knock the ball about well and Jamie Perkins headed one chance straight at the keeper and Luke Oliver headed another over.
With fifteen minutes to go Wulfs deservedly pulled a goal back. Jamie Perkins sent Brendon Turner to the by-line and Luke Oliver converted the cross.
Five minutes late Britannic made sure this was only a consolation when they scored a fine fourth goal.
There was still time for Ben Kimpton and Jamie Perkins to have their annual fall-out over nothing and the second XI left the field not quite believing how they had managed to lose so heavily.
Final score: Britannic Assurance 4 Old Wulfrunians 1.
