CPA Smethwick v Old Wulfrunians

The fourth XI hoped to return to winning ways when they travelled to close rivals CPA Smethwick.

Things were looking good when Wulfs took the lead on fourteen minutes after Richard Lovegrove was bought down on the edge of the penalty area.  Dead ball specialist Richard Marsh stepped up to smash home the resulting free kick with a shot that almost put the keeper in the net as well.

The lead was short lived as Smethwick equalised barely a minute later.

Wulfs regained the lead on the half hour mark and Richard Lovegrove was once again the creator.  Andrew Skedgel struck a superb ball into the channel and Lovegrove surged on to it and cut inside before being upended in the box by the opposing keeper.  Andy Carey slotted home comfortably from the spot.

The high promise of the first half melted away in the second as Smethwick netted two goals to steal away the three points.

Richard Marsh and Andy Skedgel, who coincidentally joined forces to write this match report, were awesome and co-manager Andy Carey managed to get into his usual running battle but as hard as Wulfs tried they could not get back into the game.

Final score: CPA Smethwick 3  Old Wulfrunians 2.
