The seasonal rainy weather abated just in time for the fifth XI to begin their season some two weeks after the start of the season.
The bright sunny weather matched an encouraging and spirited opening from a team that was comprised of the usual mix of old heads and new faces.
Unfortunately the opposition, Royal Heath Rangers, are one of the better teams in the division and despite Wulfs best efforts the 0 - 2 score line was a true reflection of an enjoyable first half.
The new boys, Michael Jennings-Bell, Andy Bolus, Alex Shepard and Richard Lovegrove all played their part and will no doubt enhance not only the fifth XI but also the clubs other teams in the future.
Three further second half goals, one of which completed a hat-trick for goal machine Ian Vogel, gave Royal Heath an emphatic win but there was much to admire from all fourteen Wulfs players who provided much satisfaction, if nil points.
Final score: Old Wulfrunians 0 Royal Heath Rangers 5.
