After last weeks disappointment of losing to lowly placed Handsworth GSOB side, the fifth XI were looking to bounce back in style against promotion chasing Wythall Athletic.
Wulfs came into this game without the Injured Anzer Nabeel and without legend Gordon Brown, but welcomed back Danny "moan a lot" Cheal and Ian "Wrighty" Phillips to the starting line up.
Wulfs started the game as if they were the title contenders and put Wythall completely on the back foot.
Wulfs took the lead after twenty-five minutes with Daniel Cox scoring his second goal in as many games after some great build up play from the midfield trio of Mike Jennings-Bell, Mike Hill & Chris Nicholls.
Wulfs extended their lead on the thirty-five minute mark, Adam Pugh the scorer. At this stage Wulfs were well on top surely there would be no way back for Wythall.
Wulfs started the second half strongly and were unlucky not to add a third goal when Chris Nicholls unleashed a spectacular thirty-five yard shot which flew past the Wythall keeper and broke the net, only for the referee to disallow it for an infringement on a Wythall player in the build up.
It was then the turn of Ian "Wrighty" Phillips to have a goal disallowed. The offside looked very dubious after he had totally confused the goalkeeper and defender who were left mud wrestling on the edge of the eighteen yard box.
Despite looking solid with Danny Cheal, Pete Oakley and Rob James performing well at the back, Wulfs once again became their own worst enemies conceding a sloppy goal which, from distance, flew under Rob Clifford-Hill and into the net.
Worse was to follow as Wythall equalised from the penalty spot .
Despite looking disheartened and disorganised Wulfs continued to battle on gamely. At this point Wythall went for broke and piled on the pressure and eventually found a winner.
The referee, for a female, controlled the game very well and was better than homer the previous week, but do women really know the offside rule?
Final score: Wythall Athletic 3 Old Wulfrunians 2.
