GNG Smethwick v Old Wulfrunians

After last weeks 5-0 drubbing of Handsworth GSOB, the fifth XI were looking to pick up another valuable three points against bottom of the table GNG Smethwick B.  With enforced changes to the side, the fifths welcomed back Danny Cheal & Chris Nicholls to their line up.

Unknown to Wulfs, GNG had decided to give their B team the week off and give their A team a run out, which currently sits 4 divisions above the Wulfs fifth team.

This showed as Wulfs were ripped apart from the quality of the opposition from the off.  Though Wulfs battled on gamely it was an uncharacteristic display from the new keeper who really had a day not to be remembered.

Wulfs found themselves 3-0 down after just twenty minutes.

Daniel Cox scored a twenty-five yard cracker to give Wulfs hope after twenty-six minutes but it only made the opposition move up gear to complete a first half score line of 5-1.

Wulfs started the second half brightly with Chris Nicholls dropping into the back three alongside Danny Cheal & Rob James.  All three battled tremendously well as GNG threw everything at them.

It was a true goal keeping blunder that gave GNG their sixth goal, a blunder that Peter Enckleman would have been proud.

Goal number seven showed what quality opposition we were up against, three one touch passes provided a goal that was unstoppable.

Wulfs did have their own chances with Ian "Wrighty" Phillips coming close and Adam Pugh and Daniel Cox also having efforts but it was never going to be Wulfs day.

Ref watch: Shocking, the same referee as the fourth XI had last week.  Obviously biased.  Booked Chris Nicholls for under arm throwing ball to him yet failed to book any players involved in bust up in last minute of game.

Moan of the match:  Danny was not his usual self and was very quiet.

Taxi of the match: There were so many but Peter Enckleman in the Old Wulfs goal gets the vote.

Look-a-like of the match: The GNG number six, not only did he stand 8 ft tall, he was a ringer for Carlton Palmer and as gangly.

Final score: GNG Smethwick 7  Old Wulfrunians 1.
